After a visit to New Plymouth with the lovely folks from Govett-Brewster I am super happy to back in South Auckland. This week I am doing a series of public programs in Otara as part of my project Tropical Thunder for the 5th Auckland Triennial. If you’re in Auckland come along!

A bit about how The Roots Creative started:
Martin Leung-Wai and Waikare Komene were given the opportunity to run an architecture event in South Auckland for the Pacific Arts Summit. They knew this was an opportunity to give back to the community with their skills and passion for indigenous design and sustainability.
They initiated the event: The Roots South Pacific Architecture. This is how The Roots began, with 8000 plastic bottles given to 36 high school students to design and build sculptures at the Otara Town Centre in South Auckland. The aim was to inspire the next generation through creativity, sustainability and leadership.
Today, The Roots is now a collective of creative industries in art, architecture, design, landscape architecture, performing arts and many more.
