Test Garden Open Day July: Artist Keg de Souza in conversation with Dean Schrieke
11 July 2026
Explore the intersection of art, ecology and science.
Join us in the Test Garden for a talk with artist Dr Keg de Souza and scientist Dr Dean Schrieke. Through an artist-in-residence program in partnership with the University of Melbourne, Keg has created new work in response to the archive and research undertaken at Burnley Campus. In this conversation, moderated by curator Julia Murphy, Keg and Dean will discuss their research at Burnley, historic narratives of botanic collection, and stories of plants beyond scientific frameworks.
The talk will be accompanied by a live audio biofeedback session with Keg and Dean in the garden, drawing from the research into specific plant traits through the Plant Trials. By amplifying the electric currents of the plants, the two will create an ambient electronic soundtrack, highlighting the plants as living entities with interconnected relationships within an ecosystem.
